Since 2011, I’ve made the trip to Boston for INBOUND, except for one year where I wasn’t working with HubSpot, and one year where it was hybrid thanks to COVID, and I erred on the side of caution.

Over these 12 years, I’ve gone from hungry to attend every session, to finding the magic in the hallways, and everything in between.

The very first year, meeting Dharmesh and Brian

And because I still meet people who have never been, and who ask for advice, here’s a run down of my thoughts on how to master INBOUND23.

So, grab your notes apps and get ready to dive into these key takeaways:

1) Know Your Short Story.

Picture this: You’re surrounded by brilliant minds, and networking opportunities are as abundant as free swag. Craft and know a concise and compelling short story (aka your elevator pitch) that clearly defines who you are and what you’re passionate about. This will help you engage in meaningful conversations that leave a lasting impression.

2) Embrace the Power of Learning.

INBOUND is a treasure trove of knowledge waiting to be unearthed. Attend sessions that align with your interests and business goals, and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Remember, growth often happens when you’re willing to explore new horizons.

3) Network Like a Pro.

In addition to all the education going on at INBOUND, you’ll find magic in those hallways. The amazing conversations that happen is also called networking. Networking isn’t just about swapping business cards; it’s about building relationships. Approach each interaction with genuine curiosity and a desire to learn from others. Whether you’re chatting with speakers, attendees, or exhibitors, be open to sharing your experiences and soaking in theirs.

They were both on my podcast because of networking!

4) Document Your Journey.

Social media is your backstage pass to the event, allowing you to share insights, quotable moments, and a behind-the-scenes peek. Leverage hashtags, live-tweet sessions, and capture Instagram-worthy visuals to share your unique INBOUND experience with your online community.

Sometimes your documenting leads to opportunities!

5) Prioritize Self-Care.

The energy at INBOUND can be electrifying, but don’t forget to recharge your own batteries. Hydrate, take breaks, and find moments of quiet reflection to absorb all the knowledge you’re gaining. A well-nourished mind and body lead to more meaningful connections and impactful learning.

Bonus to self care: Have fun! The INBOUND after hours events are great (like a comedy show or meetups). Just don’t overdo it.

6) Seek Actionable Takeaways.

The magic of INBOUND lies in its actionable insights. As you absorb a plethora of ideas, focus on identifying a few key takeaways that you can implement immediately upon returning to the real world. Turn inspiration into action and watch your marketing efforts transform.

7) Stay Curious Beyond the Event.

The end of INBOUND doesn’t mean the end of your journey. Maintain the momentum by joining post-event discussions, engaging with fellow attendees, and integrating what you’ve learned into your ongoing strategies. Keep the fire of curiosity burning bright.

Good people. Great experience. Let’s go!

So there you have it, a roadmap to conquering HubSpot’s INBOUND event like a seasoned pro. Remember, it’s not just about attending; it’s about immersing yourself in the experience, connecting with like-minded souls, and leaving with a renewed passion for your craft. See you at INBOUND23, my friends — let’s make it one for the books! 🚀🎉
